Getting Started

  1. Download Sorto from the download page for macOS or Windows.
  2. Install and open the application.
  3. Create an account — click "Sign In" in the app, which will open your browser. Create a free account with your email.
  4. Authorize the app — after signing in, the browser will redirect back to Sorto automatically.
  5. Select files — drag and drop files or select a folder to process.

Your free Starter plan includes 100 files per month. No credit card required.

Manual Mode

Manual mode lets you select specific files or folders to process on demand.

How to use it

  1. Click "Select files" or "Select folder" in the Manual tab.
  2. Sorto reads each file, extracts text using OCR, and sends the extracted text to AI for analysis.
  3. Files are renamed according to your chosen format.
  4. You can pause and resume processing at any time.

Supported file types

Sorto supports PDF files and common image formats (PNG, JPG, TIFF). Multi-page PDFs are fully supported.

Auto Mode

Auto mode watches a folder for new files and processes them automatically in the background.

Setting up a watch folder

  1. Switch to the Auto tab.
  2. Click "Select Folder" to choose a folder to watch.
  3. Toggle auto mode on.
  4. Any new files added to the folder will be processed and renamed automatically.

Auto mode is available on Professional plans and above.

Custom Formats

Sorto lets you customize how renamed files are structured using format tokens.

Troubleshooting

Files aren't being renamed correctly

This usually happens when the AI can't extract enough information from the document. Try ensuring the document is not a scanned image that's rotated or very low quality. Sorto uses OCR for scanned documents, which works best with clear, upright scans.

The app didn't open after signing in

After signing in on the web, your browser should redirect back to Sorto using a deep link. If this doesn't work, click the "click here" fallback link on the sign-in page, or restart the app and sign in again.

Auto mode isn't detecting new files

Make sure auto mode is toggled on and the watched folder path is correct. Sorto detects new files when they appear in the folder — files that were already there before enabling auto mode won't be processed automatically.
